Who operates Motion to Complain
Motion to Complain is made and operated by Almost Serious Apps (referred to as “Motion to Complain,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). Questions and privacy requests can be sent to support@almostseriousapps.com.
Information we collect
- Account information: your Sign in with Apple identifier, email or private relay address if Apple provides one, confirmation that you meet the minimum age, and account status. Motion to Complain does not ask for or store your exact age, age range, birth date, or real name.
- Account and Circuit information: permanent Court handle, Circuit nickname, memberships, roles, invitations, blocks, settings, and rules.
- Court content: claims, responses, evidence, comments, objections, questions, verdicts, appeals, votes, reports, fictional Petty Cash entries, and case reports generated from those records.
- Photos: photos you choose to submit as evidence, along with file type, size, checksum, and safety-review status. Video and audio evidence are not supported in the initial release.
- Safety and support information: reports, private moderation notes, actions taken, and access logs for protected content.
- Technical information: identifiers and records needed to authenticate you, show in-app notices, diagnose failures, prevent abuse, and secure the service.
How we use information
We use information to authenticate users, enforce age restrictions, operate Circuits and cases, show appropriate tasks and in-app notices, store and deliver evidence, screen and investigate content, prevent abuse, provide support, protect users and the service, comply with law, and maintain reliable records of court and moderation actions.
How information is shared
Your email address is not displayed to Circuit members. A globally unique Court handle identifies your account in safety controls and cannot be changed after setup; Circuit-specific nicknames remain the ordinary display names in each group. Reports and moderator notes are limited to authorized Circuit administrators or platform safety reviewers, as appropriate.
We use service providers to operate Motion to Complain, including Supabase for authentication, database hosting, and private file storage; Apple for authentication and iOS services; and Cloudflare for security and platform operations. When photo evidence is enabled, we may use Sightengine or another safety-screening provider to analyze a photo before it is shown to other users. These providers process information only for the services they supply to us.
We may disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with valid legal process, respond to an emergency, protect someone from harm, investigate suspected illegal activity, or protect users and the service. We do not sell personal information or use it for cross-app advertising.
Children and teens
Motion to Complain is intended for people age 13 and older. A user must confirm that they are at least 13, but the private-Circuit version does not ask for or store an exact age, age range, or birth date. If we learn that a child under 13 provided personal information, we will remove the account and associated information as required. Before introducing any public-community feature, we will add an appropriate privacy-preserving age restriction.
Retention
Court text records remain available to the private Circuit unless removed for safety, account deletion, legal requirements, or an authorized administrative action. Evidence attachments are generally scheduled for deletion 30 days after a case concludes, unless they must be preserved for an active report, safety investigation, dispute, or legal requirement. Safety records are kept only as long as reasonably necessary to investigate abuse, protect users, and document decisions.
Account deletion
You can permanently delete your account from Account & Safety inside the app. After you type DELETE and confirm with the same Apple Account, deletion begins immediately and cannot be canceled. Motion to Complain revokes its Sign in with Apple authorization, removes the authentication account, uploaded files, and user-authored content, and retains only limited pseudonymous audit information when necessary for security, fraud prevention, legal compliance, protection from harm, or the integrity of shared records. See the account-deletion page for details.
Security
Motion to Complain uses access controls, private storage, database permissions, short-lived protected-media links, and moderation audit records. No service can guarantee perfect security. Please avoid submitting unnecessary sensitive information.
Your choices and rights
You can change a Circuit nickname, leave a Circuit when permitted, block or unblock another account, report supported content, and request account deletion. A Court handle cannot be changed because it is the stable identifier used to make account-wide safety controls unambiguous. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights to access, correct, delete, or object to certain uses of information. Contact support@almostseriousapps.com to make a request.
International processing
Our service providers may process information in the United States and other countries where they operate. Those countries may have different data-protection laws than your location. We use appropriate safeguards where required.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Motion to Complain changes. The current version and effective date will remain available on this page, and we will provide additional notice when required.
